Achat local
- We support local and regional Québécois or Ontario farmers by purchasing their seasonal produce.
- We buy from local grocery stores that sell produce and products grown and processed in Québec or within a 250 km radius of our campus.
Compostage
We have three main area that create compost:
1. Household compost from food preparation and waste, all of which is composted onsite, and eventually spread as fertilizer.
2. 12-Horse Stable manure, which is composted and spread on gardens and lawns.
3. 30-Husky Kennel dog poop, which is mixed with bedding straw, wood chips and composted.
Faune et flore
Since 1994, we have funded and operated Cushing Nature - a provincially licensed wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release facility, which remains one of the only privately funded facilities of its kind in the province. For more than 3 decades, the Cushing family have rescued and released orphaned indigenous animals and educated our clients and students about environmental literacy.
Recyclage
- We are working with local recycling initiatives as provided by our MRC i.e. plastic, glass and can recyling.
Sans OGM
We avoid purchasing any products containing GMOs.
Utilisation de produits biodégradables
All detergents used for washing, i.e. laundry, kitchen and vehicles, do not use phosphates, are biodegradable and septic system friendly.
Vrac
Where ever possible we purchase bulk i.e. rice, flour, grains and dried fruit to benefit from volume purchases and avoid excessive packaging.
